Gujarat is a dry state and Gujjus profoundly have an obsession of food rather than alcohol. Every “Amdavadi’s” first crush is their food. The Gujarati tang and taste will mesmerize you. So if you are packing bags for Ahmedabad, don’t forget to try the following dishes from the city to make your trip a pleasing experience:

1) Fafda- Jalebi
“Naam to suna hi hoga” The first thing comes in mind after listening to the word gujju is “Fafda”. It is an Ahmedabadi snack made up of dough of gram and fried into long pieces and served with Kadhi & Green Chilly(fried). When you take a bite of it you will experience taste sweet, bitter and spicy tastes at the same time. The ideal place to get a good fafda jalebi is Oswal and you won’t regret buying Fafda from there.

2) Khaman
Made up of slit black gram, also known as “Jalaram Khaman” is one of the most addictive dishes you will ever come across from Gujarati tang. With minimum crisp, the result is the maximum satisfaction to get..! Ideal places to have Khaman are Shree Jay Jalaram House and Daas Khaman. You can get different varieties of Khaman there.

3) Masala Pohaa
I guess every vegan must have tried this. But have you ever tried the masala poha near the Parimal Garden? It is indeed a filling breakfast to have. Try a poha in the morning and you stay energetic the whole day.

4 ) The Gujarati Thaali
So coming to the main course, the Gujarati thaali consists of soul-satisfying energy which will lead you to moksha (just kidding). If you are a married woman living in Gujarat, a Gujarati Thaali is a secret weapon to make your husband happy. As per gujju wives,
“The way to a man’s heart goes through their stomachs”.

5) The Manek Chowk Special BhajiPav- Pulav
Who says vegetarians only eat grasses and greens. Proudly eat bhaji pav & pulav and you will never regret being a vegetarian. You might forget biriyani after Pulav. The special bhaji pav is available at night in the Manek Chowk area. It is going to leave your mouth full of water (and a bit of oil too).
